This is Iain Moffat's business web site. I have now retired from BT after 36 years in electronic engineering, datacentre build, IP network design and Video distribution design and am now working as a sole trader under the name of Brockford Radio Services. I have a degree in Electronic and Information Engineering and have held an Amateur Radio License since 1986. I have three major lines of business:
-
Business Radio Hire
Business Radio is the next step up in performance and security from license free solutions like PMR 446.
I can provide Business Radio equipment for hire on "Supplier Light" channels to customers in Norfolk and Suffolk in the UK under my OFCOM license including:
Short term radio hire rates are £12 per day for Motorola, £10 per day for TYT Analogue/Digital radios and £3/day for analogue radios. Repeater Hire starts at £75 per day for analogue FM and £100 per day for DMR digital. Please contact us for long term hire rates and radio accessories.
A trailer mounted base station mast is available.
Radio Related Services
We have both Rohde and Schwarz and Marconi test sets and can carry out functional testing and performance measurements on most analogue and some digital radios up to 1GHz and can program Motorola, TYT, Retevis and some other brands subject to software availability.
I am a licensed radio amateur and can test all of the major brands of transceiver and may be able to carry out repairs if parts and manuals are still available.
Theatrical Prop Hire
We have a significant collection of historic military and amateur radio communications equipment and are open to hire opportunities and technical advisory roles for film, TV and theatre prop use.
IP and Computing
I have 37 years experience in the telecommunications and IT fields with BT covering everything from IP networks, the beginnings of commercial VOIP and online computer games, Datacentre construction and operation, and Digital TV to Satellite communications. I have at various points prior to my retirement from BT been a Chartered Engineer a Chartered IT professional and held a Cisco CCNA certification.
I am available for consultation on network configuration and design and to deliver network training. Most of my recent experience has been with Cisco and Checkpoint equipment using BGP, EIGRP, PIM in datacentre and WAN installations.
I have experience since the 1990s building web sites having started using old school raw HTML and CGI and more recently using AWS and IONOS cloud based services and can advise on cloud migration from personal experience.
Radio
We are able to do radio coverage surveys for the VHF and UHF bands.
We are able to do spectrum occupancy surveys from 1 to 2500MHz and interference monitoring or investigation and tracing within the capabilities of our test equipment. This work will be done on a time and materials basis at our consultancy rates.
I still hold stock of the Epson SG8002 programmable quartz oscillator and can provide programmed examples until stocks are exhausted.
The SG8002 comes in a 4 pin J-Lead SMT package slightly larger than a classic 8 pin DIP so easily hand soldered and can be programmed for frequencies between 1.5 and 125MHz with 3.3 or 5 volt supply, and optional TTL or CMOS squarewave outputs.
